History of the school
1984 to 2000:
An Immersion In English
Ingrid JOSEPH-FANIART began work at the Charleville-Mézières Chamber of Commerce giving lessons to adults and teenagers. By teaching them, she realized the difficulties one had to face. Opening a language school for children and teenagers became evident.
Studies have shown that children at an early age, have the capacity to readily absorb a second language as their minds are more open to learning, making it easier for them to learn correct punctuation, as well as the nuances and idiosyncrasies of the English language which are not found in French or any other European language. Hence children who learn English at an early age are better equipped to live in a global society.
About the English School
The English School was started in 1984 by Ingrid JOSEPH-FANIART. This journey began with 34 students.
Steadily, we were able to increase the number of student enrolment to over 100. They are aged 6 to 15 years old.
The school has grown steadily over the years and the knowledge of its success has become well known throughout Charleville-Mézières.
Cambridge English Language Assessment is a part of the University of Cambridge. Over 5 million Cambridge Exams are taken each year in more than 130 Countries. More than 20,000 Universities, employers, government ministries and other organisations accept these certificates.
2000 up till now:
Working Hand in Hand with the University of Cambridge
In 2000, Mr Anthony HARVEY, the exam service manager for France and Benelux contacted Ingrid JOSEPH-FANIART and asked her if she would be interested in promoting Cambridge examinations in the Ardennes. The aim is to prepare children aged 7 onwards for future international studies. The idea seemed excellent and the English School got the authorized certification as a language center to run Young Learners Examinations (YLE) for children aged 7 to 13 years old:
- Starters: CE1/CE2/CM1
- Movers: CM1/CM2/6e (A1)*
- Flyers: 6e/5e/4e (A2)*
On top of this, Ingrid JOSEPH-FANIART prepares teenagers for CAMBRIDGE English KEY (A2)* and Cambridge English PRELIMINARY (B1)*.
*The scale of evaluation is closely linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CECR).
These examinations are recognized by the Education Nationale in France and by 130 countries in the world.
It has now been over a decade since she has been promoting these examinations in Charleville-Mézières achieving successful results. Most of the English School’s former students are doing higher studies in different universities in France, Europe and other countries and are using English on a daily basis.
